No, ForPetSakes is an in-home professional pet sitting business, which means we care for your pets in the comfort of your own home. You come home to a happy and well-adjusted pet.
We use a third party company, FetchFind, that specializes in training for pet sitters and dog walkers. Training material consists of Bite Prevention, Canine Behavior & Communication, Canine Health & Wellness, Dog Breeds 101, Canine Development, Dog Training for Pet Pros, Feline Fundamentals plus more.
Many people are new to the pet sitting experience, and when they think of a pet sitter, they automatically compare us to babysitters or having the teenager down the street to do it. There is an enormous difference between professional pet sitters and having friends, family, or teenagers watch your pets. As professional pet sitters, we are experienced and trained in Pet First-Aid & CPR and we have also taken 13 hours of training through FetchFind a company that specializes in training for dog walkers and pet sitters.
Before any pet care services can take place a Meet & Greet needs to be scheduled. This initial consultation is a time for pets, pet sitter and owner to get acquainted and a time for documenting your pet's personal preferences as to feeding, walking, playing and likes, and dislikes. We will also discuss where certain pet supplies will be located. You'll be able to get answers to any questions you may have as welll.
ForPetSakes preferred method of payment is cash but we also accept check, Pay Pal, and Venmo.
ForPetSakes is dedicated to excellent care of your pet(s). In the event of an injury or illness, we will take your pet to your veterinarian, or if after hours your pet will be taken to the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota in Oakdale. We will make all reasonable efforts to reach you or your emergency contact before seeking medical treatment unless the situation requires immediate attention. We ask that you contact your veterinarian before departing to notify them ForPetSakes will be caring for your pet(s) during your specified vacation schedule and authorizing payment.
The rain or snow doesn't stop us from walking dogs! However, some dogs love the snow and aren't phased by the colder temperatures while others don't care for it much. Warmer weather and higher temperatures can be especially dangerous for older and certain breed dogs. No dog will be pushed to walk or stay outside longer than he or she can bear in extreme temperatures or inclement weather. In these cases either the walk will be broken up into two shorter walks with a little break in between or we will go for a walk that will be shorter and then spend the remaining time having playtime in the house. No matter the weather conditions the personalized care, one on one attention & unconditional love your pet(s) get never changes!! If you have any sweaters, jackets, or boots you'd like us to utilize just inform us and we'd be happy to use them.
In order to monitor the health of pets and provide proper food, water, and litter care, we require a minimum of one visit per day for cats and other small pets. The most common schedule for cats and small pets is one or two visits per day, whichever is best for your pets and their routine. Dogs, however, are social animals and require at least two visits at the minimum.
If they have a functioning doggie door that leads to a completely secure area and there are no medical or behavior issues, two visits a day may be adequate. However, most dogs require three or four visits per day. It’s against our professional ethics to leave dogs inside for extended periods without relief. Think about their daily routine and talk with us to determine what is best for your pets.
You are responsible for providing ForPetSakes with all cleaning supplies, including bags for picking up waste or cleaning litter boxes, paper towels, carpet cleaners, etc. Please let us know any specific details that require special care, i.e. Delicate or expensive carpets & rugs.
ForPetSakes believes in positive reinforcement ONLY for pets in our care. We will never hit, yell, yank the leash, slap or grab your pet. If we notice a behavioral issue while a pet is in our care, we will work together with you to come up with a way to address it.
The times when extra charges will apply are the following:
•Holiday surcharge
•When extra time and/or visits are deemed necessary for the care of your pet(s)
•If we have to purchase any supplies for the care of your pet(food, litter, ID tag)
•Any additional In person meet ups after your initial Meet & Greet will result in a fee
•If you decide to not let us hold on to your key at the end of service any additional key pick ups or drop offs will result in a fee
•Cancellation fees may apply when reservations are changed or cancelled
No! We love all breeds and are happy to help to take care of them. However, regardless of the breed, your dog must be well behaved on and off leash, willing to walk on leash, be good with new people, and not have a history of biting people or other dogs. We understand that many dogs may have some form of leash aggression, even if very mild, and will keep your dog away from any other dogs, people or animals while they are being walked. You can discuss with us your dog’s needs and behavioral issues and we can let you know if we think your dog will be a good fit.
Absolutely! Pet Taxi Services is one of the services we offer. We’ll come to your home, or workplace, and be sure your pets get where they need to go. Need us to wait at the check-up? No problem, we’ll do a round-trip! Working late or want to go out after work we can make sure your pup gets picked up from doggy daycare and brought back home. Coming home from vacation late, but don’t want to leave your pup at the boarding facility an extra night? Save stress on them, (and cash for you!) by letting us bring them home for you! There’s nothing much better than coming home from a long trip and being able to go straight home to a sweet pup waiting for you!
Absolutely! Leave the messy part of being a dog owner to us. We offer year round Weekly, 2x a week or Bi-Weekly Pick-ups. As well as Spring Clean-Ups and One Time Pick-ups. For more information and pricing select the Find More button below.
All first time clients receive a complimentary meet and greet. If you’d like us to come back out to your house for additional visits prior to service, we are happy to arrange this. Any additional Meet & Greets after the initial one will result in a $25 fee.
A Dog Walking service is great for those who work during the week. Whether it be going into the office or working from home!
We understand how busy your week is with trying to balance work, your family, your health and your pets. Before you know it the week is over and you didn't get a chance to take your pop out for a walk, again or not as many times as you should. Can you relate?!
It's also great for older individuals that may not be able to walk for long periods and anyone recovering from surgery or another medical condition where they need to take it easy. These are just a few examples
